What does the Blues Brothers, a family of superheroes, warring Greek gods, and James Bond have in common? All are characters in blockbuster films. Music from each movie took the starring role in Oct. 1 concert. Selected pieces from the performance are below (in .mp3 format). Enjoy! The best part of any movie is the music!

  • Play Bella's LullabyBella's Lullaby

Twilight is the highest grossing theatrical movie soundtrack since the Oscar-winning movie Chicago. Carter Burwell composed Bella’s Lullaby, which plays throughout the movie, as a love theme between the characters Bella and Edward. The lilting tune serves as the love theme which drives the movie’s plot. It is an unusual romance; Bella is a human teenager, and Edward is a 108-year old vampire. Edward and his family eventually find themselves in a frantic fight to keep an evil vampire coven from hurting Bella.

  • Play The IncrediblesThe Incredibles

The 2004 Academy Award winner for Best Animated Feature, The Incredibles features a family of superheroes. The parents, Bob and Helen Parr, were once the superheroes known respectively as “Mr. Incredible” and “Elastigirl.” They, and all other superheroes, were forced into hiding. Their exploits created lawsuits from injured bystanders and created a firestorm. Yet a superhero can’t stop saving the day. This medley, based on the music composed by Michael Giacchino, captures the movie’s eclectic plot with jazzy, energetic tunes.

  • Play James Bond Theme Song; and, Live & Let DieJames Bond Theme Song; and, Live & Let Die

Superspy James Bond always saves the world…while great music plays in the background.  The James Bond  franchise is the longest-running movie series, producing 22 films from 1962 to 2010 (with a hiatus from 1989 to 1995). This is a key factor in this energetic arrangement. Two are included in this audio clip. Monty Norman’s James Bond Theme has been featured during each of the 22 films. Live and Let Die, an Oscar-winning song composed by Sir John McCarthy, a former Beatle, and his late wife, Linda. The work opened a film of the same name in 1973. In this movie, Bond battled voodoo priests and heroin smugglers.
