Celebrate music’s charms at the Holly Springs Community Band’s spring concert.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m., April 9, in the Holly Springs Cultural Arts Center’s auditorium under the direction of Bonnie Borchert. Admission is free, and the public is invited. The program’s exciting start kicks off with a musical tribute to Boy Scout troops in Holly Springs.
“We’re thrilled to be part of a vibrant local arts scene,” said Karin Nielson, the band’s publicist. “As musicians, we always want to perform great pieces that people will enjoy. We also want to help celebrate a dynamic group of kids. They’ve made so many positive contributions to our town with a smile.”
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. The organization prides itself on creating tomorrow’s leaders by building strong character, self-discipline, and responsibility in boys and young men.
Besides the tribute, band members will perform works ranging from classical to rock ‘n roll. This includes the popular The Washington Post March by John Philip Sousa. The composer created numerous American military and patriotic marches. Another piece is Second Suite in F by composer Gustav Holst, most famous for The Planets. He often combined elements of English folk tunes and Hindu spiritualism in his works. Semi-classical works will include Hounds of Spring, Song and Dance, and Phoenix Overture. The movie theme song of The Magnificent Seven, and a medley of Steely Dan songs complete the diverse program.
